Hallie Gould and Julia Reid, tuck
Tell us about your company and what inspired you to start it
tuck is a Canadian based modern bedding brand – our mission is to provide high quality, thoughtfully designed, sustainably manufactured products to our fellow sleepers.
Julia was on maternity leave when she came up with the idea! She’s been bedding obsessed her whole life and enlisted the help of Hallie, a fellow lover of interiors, textiles, and all things sleep. Drawing from both our past experience—Julia’s in finance and Hallie working with new and established brands—we worked for over a year on product development to create the proprietary fabric blend for our super-soft, quality bedding.
How specifically does it relate to sustainable design, production and/or consumption?
We use our own proprietary fabric blend of Organic Cotton and TENCEL Lyocell. Tencel is recognized around the world for its environmentally friendly closed loop production process – it transforms wood pulp into fibres with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact. Specifically, this process recycles and reuses more than 99% of the process water and solvent it uses. It’s a fibre we’re really proud to include in our bedding.
What community or customer behaviors are you hoping to create or reinforce?
We know that everyone needs bedding to sleep on. So we’re happy that we can provide super-soft, sustainable options to encourage the best rest possible.
What is one of the most helpful or enlightening lessons you’ve learned along the way?
How long everything takes to create. We always want to be innovating and providing new sleep solutions, but it all takes time to test and iterate … we’re learning patience :)
What’s the biggest problem you’re currently trying to solve?
Sleep is so incredibly important to your overall health – both physically and mentally. So, helping to make people’s bed an inviting place to regenerate is something we’re very proud to be a part of.
